Privacy Statement
The Cognitive Security Institute Press is committed to protecting the privacy and personal data of every individual who interacts with our publications, website, submission portals, and related services. This Privacy Statement explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use and safeguard it, and what rights you hold over your data.
We operate in accordance with applicable data protection frameworks, including the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) where relevant to individuals in the European Economic Area, applicable U.S. state privacy laws (including the California Consumer Privacy Act / CPRA), and other internationally recognized privacy standards. We collect only the personal data necessary to provide our services and fulfill our publishing mission.
What We Collect
When you submit a manuscript or place an order, we collect the information necessary to complete that transaction: your name, institutional affiliation, email address, mailing address, and payment details. Payment information is processed exclusively by PCI-DSS-compliant third-party processors — we do not store card details. When you visit our website, we automatically collect standard server log data such as IP address and browser type. We use cookies to support essential site functions and, with your consent, to analyze site traffic.
How We Use Your Data
We use your data to process manuscript submissions and manage peer review, fulfill orders and subscriptions, communicate about publications and editorial decisions, and comply with legal and financial obligations. We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal data. Author names, affiliations, and published metadata are shared with standard academic indexing services (e.g., Crossref, Scopus) as part of the scholarly record. Manuscript management and fulfillment partners process data on our behalf under strict contractual data protection obligations.
Retention
Published bibliographic records are retained indefinitely as part of the scholarly record. Unpublished manuscript files and correspondence are retained for a maximum of one year following a final editorial decision. Financial records are retained for seven years per applicable law. Subscriptions are maintained until you unsubscribe.
Your Rights
You have the right to access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, to restrict or object to certain processing, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at press@cognitivesecurityinstitute.org.
